Learning in work and life

Research in this stream focuses on the growing importance of learning in work and all domains of social life. Programs of research into professional learning and education, including specific professions such as health; workplace learning, vocational education, organizational learning, online and e-learning are linked by theories of learning in practice, at work, in settings inside and outside formal education.

This research builds on the internationally recognized research in workplace learning undertaken over the past ten years within the Centre and within OVAL, its predecessor centre. A growing focus on professional learning and changing professional practice in a global context has resulted in the development of projects that cross the boundary between workplace practices and higher and professional education, in a critical engagement with processes of major change in work, professional practice and policy. Research in this stream informs, and is directly informed by, new research in the Health practice, communication and innovation stream. This stream supports the Special Interest Group in Higher and Professional Education in the Australian Association for Research in Education. (opens an external site).
